Sacramento, CA - Following a Monday school holiday in observance of Abraham Lincoln鈥檚 birthday, racist graffiti was discovered this morning on an exterior wall at Abraham Lincoln Elementary school. The graffiti was painted over as soon as it was discovered and support services are being provided for students and staff who were traumatized by this racist incident.
Sac City Unified is working to fully investigate this incident and is consulting with the Rancho Cordova Police Department on next steps. The district will take appropriate action in the event that a student or anyone associated with Lincoln Elementary School or Sac City Unified is involved.
鈥淚t is appalling that anyone would target a school with racist graffiti and subject students, staff and families to messages of hate,鈥 said Superintendent Jorge A. Aguilar. 鈥淲ith support from law enforcement we will fully investigate this incident. We also want each of our students to know that they are loved and cared for while we work to confront racism in any form.鈥
鈥淭he Sacramento City Unified School Board condemns acts of racism in the strongest possible terms,鈥 said Sacramento City Unified School Board President Christina Pritchett. 鈥淲e are saddened and outraged to see events like this occur in places that are meant to be welcoming safe havens for all of our students and staff. We ask that any member of our community with information come forward and join us in condemning this hurtful act.鈥
