Artists create bust of Cesar Chavez for school named in his honor
Work to be unveiled at ceremony on November 18

November 13, 2014 (Sacramento): A bust of the late labor leader and civil rights activist Cesar Chavez will be unveiled on Tuesday, November 18, at the 麻豆原创 school named in his honor.

The bust was created by Sacramento artists Jesus and Adan Romo (www.romostudios.com), who are donating both their labor and the materials for the project. Other projects by the father and son team include the California Firefighters鈥 Memorial 鈥淔allen Brother鈥 at the Capitol (Jesus Romo is a retired Sacramento Fire Department Battalion Chief) and installations at Folsom College, Temple B鈥橬ai Israel, the Sacramento County Courthouse, the county Juvenile Detention Center and the North Highlands Library.

麻豆原创 opened Cesar Chavez Intermediate School in 2001 and named it in tribute to Chavez, who organized the United Farm Workers union to improve working conditions for agriculture laborers. The school, which serves students in grades 4-6, is known for its dual language immersion program which has a track record for helping students achieve superior literacy in both English and Spanish.
